Gerard Butler is a Scottish actor born in November 1969 with numerous roles in big budget films. Throughout his illustrious acting career, he played in over 30 films with great range. Some of his more well known roles include playing a former mercenary and Royal Marine that played Lara Croft’s ex love interest, Terry Sheridan, in the movie titled Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. He also played in the classic retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae titled 300 based off Frank Miller’s fictional graphic novel. He played King Leonidas of the Spartan Army. The tale boasted 300 Spartans vs 1,000,000 Persians. There was a number of mixed feelings between critics due to the style having a dark edge much like Frank Miller’s Sin City, but the general population loved it. This film had the 24th largest box office opening, and ended up grossing over 400 million dollars. In a more serious tone, Butler played a man of revenge (Clyde Shelton) who sought to take the life of Clarence who murdered his wife and daughter. Co-star Jamie Foxx (Nick Rice) plays the prosecutor that has to convict him for murder. However, through a slew of Shelton’s crafty engineering skills and shrewd tactics, Rice has to find a way to take him out for good. How to Train You Dragon was another successful film that showed a more animated side to Gerard Butler. He had the role as Stoick the Vast: a fierce warrior that embodies the Viking Spirit. He was in a star studded cast alongside Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jonah Hill, and Craig Ferguson. It was the fifth most successful film of Dreamworks Animation grossing nearly 500 million dollars.
